The IIHF has previously announced that it will evaluate Russia's and Belarus' participation from tournament to tournament.

"For reasons of safety and practicality," the IIHF has decided not to allow the countries to participate in next year's World Championships. The decision also applies to the Junior World Championships.

Russia's participation in the Women's World Cup will be decided in November.

The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) announced that it will appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

"We neither accept nor understand the IIHF's short-sighted decision, which goes against the sport's vision of uniting people all over the world," the Russian federation wrote.

Russia and Belarus have been suspended from international ice hockey since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
