Salman Rushdie is satisfied with the verdict against Hadi Matar, who was previously sentenced to 25 years in prison for attempted murder and assault on Rushdie.
I am satisfied that he received the maximum sentence, and I hope that he uses the time to reflect on what he has done, he says to BBC.
The 27-year-old stabbed the author more than twelve times, in the head, neck, abdomen, back, leg, and right hand, and Rushdie was close to losing his life. The attack took place in August 2022, in connection with a lecture in the state of New York, USA.
Hadi Matar was arrested at the crime scene. He has consistently denied the crime and did not testify during the trial.
