Hadi Matar, who was convicted of attempted murder and assault on Salman Rushdie, has had his sentence determined: 25 years in prison.
The 27-year-old stabbed the author more than twelve times, in the head, neck, abdomen, back, thigh, and right hand, and Rushdie was close to losing his life. The attack took place in August 2022, in connection with a lecture in New York State in the USA.
Hadi Matar was arrested at the crime scene and has been detained since then. He has consistently denied the crime and did not testify during the trial in February.
