It was crowded and sweaty and when they finally made their way across the Öresund Bridge, one or two exercisers were met with disappointment. The medals were finished.

Over 40,000 runners chose to run or jog between Denmark and Sweden as a Sunday pleasure. The interest in Broloppet turned out to be significantly greater than the organizer had counted on. There were more runners in action than medals to distribute.

We did not think so many would come to the start, so therefore we had bought fewer medals, says Annika Knutsson, project manager for Broloppet, to SVT.

We must think sustainability and not order medals that will be left lying. Now more came than we calculated and it's sad that those who came last over the finish line did not get a medal, explains Knutsson.

Crowding at the finish was another consequence of overbooking. Many runners had to wait up to a quarter of an hour before they could pass the finish line. They therefore did not get the correct finish time.

We had calculated a flow of approximately 350 runners per minute, but significantly more came in the middle, so therefore it became a queue to the finish, says Annika Knutsson.

The medal-less exercisers will receive a metal memory from this year's Brolopp sent home.
