"Developments in the Middle East also affect the security situation in Sweden. In recent weeks, we have seen attacks in several countries against American consulates and Jewish and Israeli interests," says Strömmer in a written comment.
Within the security zone, where the US and Israeli embassies are located, police are allowed to search people and vehicles without a concrete suspicion of a crime.
"This is a tool the government has ensured is in the Police Authority's toolbox since 2024. The government is closely monitoring developments and what they mean for Sweden's internal security and is considering measures," says Strömmer.
