Rubio's warning came in connection with a visit to Guyana, where the American Foreign Minister signed an agreement to increase security cooperation between the USA and the South American country.
There will be consequences for aggressive actions, said Rubio at a press conference.
A year ago, the USA and Guyana agreed on joint sea patrols, after Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro threatened to take over the oil-rich Guyanese border region Essequibo.
I am very pleased with the USA's assurance that ensures our territorial integrity and sovereignty are protected, said Guyana's President Irfaan Ali about the new agreement, which includes expanded intelligence exchange, among other things.
When asked what the USA would do if Venezuela attacked the American oil giant Exxon Mobil's oil project in Guyana, Rubio replied:
It would be a very bad day, a very bad week for them.
We have a large fleet, and it can go almost anywhere.
Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro responded angrily, calling Rubio an "imbecile".
No one threatens Venezuela.
