France has promised to recognize Palestine as a state in September. Rubio is to speak with Israeli leaders during the visit about "our commitment to combating anti-Israeli actions such as a unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state that rewards Hamas terrorism", according to a statement.
They are also to discuss Israel's "operational goals and objectives" in Israel's latest offensive, which includes, among other things, a takeover of Gaza City.
The statement does not mention Israel's attack on Hamas's political leadership in Qatar on Tuesday. The attack, which was approved by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is said to have caused frustration in Washington.
US President Donald Trump and his closest advisors have begun to wonder if Netanyahu is trying to sabotage the talks on a ceasefire in Gaza, according to sources with insight for Politico.
The US wants to push for the talks between Israel and Hamas to be resumed after the attack.
On Friday, Qatar's Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin al-Thani, among others, will meet Marco Rubio in Washington. There, they are expected to discuss, among other things, Israel's attack and the negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza.
Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin al-Thani is also expected to meet Trump, Vice President JD Vance and envoy Steve Witkoff, reports Israeli media.
