Trump himself has recently emphasized his support for the EU-critical Orbán ahead of the Hungarian parliamentary elections in April.
Orbán's Fidesz party is facing headwinds in public opinion. Challenger Péter Magyar drummed his message this weekend that "Hungary's place is in Europe" when his Tisza party kicked off the election campaign.
