The individual meeting between Marco Rubio and Benjamin Netanyahu lasted for about an hour and a half, according to a US source. Then, more delegates from the two countries were let into the room for a larger meeting.
The people of Gaza deserve a better future, but the better future cannot begin until Hamas is eliminated, says Rubio at a joint press conference after the meeting.
You can count on our unwavering support and commitment to see this realized.
”Encouraging”
Rubio says that the fact that several countries have taken measures to recognize a Palestinian state can have an encouraging effect on the terrorist-stamped Hamas.
They (the measures) are largely symbolic - they actually have no impact on bringing us closer to a Palestinian state. The only impact they actually have is that it makes Hamas feel even more encouraged, he says.
”Best friend”
According to Netanyahu, Rubio's visit is a "clear message" that the US is on Israel's side.
US President Donald Trump is, according to him, "the best friend Israel has ever had in the White House".
Prior to the meeting, Rubio stated that the parties would, among other things, discuss the attempts to put an end to the Gaza war. He has previously said that US President Donald Trump wants the war to end.
