According to Luis Rubiales, who was involved in developing the plan for the 2030 World Cup in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, a final outside Spain would mean that the country should no longer be involved in organising the championship.
"If Spain doesn't get to the final, we can't continue with the event for another second," the scandal-plagued 48-year-old told Marca .
The British newspaper The Times reported earlier this week that FIFA President Gianni Infantino had promised to give Morocco the World Cup final in exchange for support after recent fierce criticism. FIFA has denied this.
"I can't say whether it (the final in Spain) is in danger or not, but it is clearly being discussed," Rubiales said.
According to its own regulations, FIFA is not allowed to award more than one World Cup at a time, but since the 2030 World Cup is being organised by countries in Europe, Africa and South America and the 2026 championship was decided in North America, only countries in Asia and Oceania can apply for the 2034 World Cup, something Rubiales believes was planned.
Then only Saudi Arabia remained as a candidate for the 2034 World Cup, and it was awarded the tournament directly because Australia withdrew. That gives reason to think, doesn't it, says Rubiales.
