Ruben Östlund has long had his sights set on showing his new film at Cannes in May, where he hopes to win a third Palme d'Or. But the director now reveals that "The Entertainment System is Down" may be delayed.

Filming is finished, but according to Östlund, it is the editing that will take time.

We will decide at the end of February whether we will go to Cannes this year or actually wait and cut it for another year before we release the film, Östlund tells industry magazine Deadline.

Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl and Keanu Reeves star in “The Entertainment System is Down”, Östlund’s follow-up to the satire “Triangle of Sadness”, which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2023 and was nominated for an Oscar. His film “The Square” also won the Palme d’Or in 2017.
