A Lithuanian long-distance rower has been rescued from a storm-battered sea off Australia, after he almost rowed into a tropical cyclone.

Long-distance rower Aurimas Mockus tried to cross the Pacific Ocean alone, when he almost rowed into the tropical cyclone named Alfred.

Already on Friday, Mockus activated an emergency rocket, but he was forced to endure three more nights at sea because the threatening cyclone hindered the rescue operation.

On Monday, he was safe on a rescue ship and received care.

"The ship is heading back to the Australian coast," says Australia's equivalent to the Coast Guard in a statement.

Mockus began his 12,000-kilometer long journey from the USA in September. The goal was to row all the way to Australia, to draw attention to Ukraine's war effort, but he fell short of the goal.
