Last year, Eartha Cumings made history in the women's top division football by keeping a clean sheet for 886 minutes in a row. But the Scot is not infallible, as shown in Sunday's top match at Kristinebergs IP.
Shortly after Molly Johansson gave Rosengård the lead for the second time in the match, 2-1, the guests were awarded a throw-in. Cumings played the ball short to a defender, who hit a loose pass back. But the goalkeeper's focus must have been elsewhere, as instead of taking the ball with her foot, she let it slip under her and into her own goal.
Karma from last time?
I didn't look at the ball and it rolled under my foot. That can happen to anyone, that's just life. I was of course furious and felt that I let the team down. But it's just a matter of letting it go, says Cumings to Viaplay.
From the opposing side, it sounded a little different. Mimmi Larsson, who scored Djurgården's 1-1 goal in the first half, immediately thought of an incident when the teams met at Stadion last season. Rosengård had already secured the championship title and Cumings "showed off" by, among other things, taking down a high ball on her chest instead of using her hands.
The first thing I thought of was when she chested it down at Stadion last year. So I felt "karma always gets you back somehow", says Mimmi Larsson to Viaplay.
Still at the top
Eartha Cumings bursts out laughing when she hears Larsson's comment:
Haha, yeah, you could say that. But I don't think karma works that way, this was probably just one of those things that happens in football sometimes, says Cumings.
The 2-2 goal was also decisive for the outcome of Sunday's match. The second half was goalless and the teams shared the points.
After five rounds, Djurgården is second on eleven points, two behind Hammarby. Rosengård is fourth, another point behind.
