With 102 days left until the Ryder Cup, the Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy has secured his place in Europe's team in the classic competition against the USA. Regardless of how well the golf star plays this summer, the 36-year-old has clinched one of the six direct spots.

”It is always a great honor to get to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup, so it means a lot to have qualified for the eighth time in a row”, he says to the competition's website.

The six best on Europe's Ryder Cup ranking on August 18 are guaranteed to play at Bethpage in Farmingdale, New York, on September 26–28.

Captain Luke Donald gets to choose which other six players he wants in the team.

Swedish world talent Ludvig Åberg is currently eighth on the European ranking. Åberg got to play the Ryder Cup in Rome during his debut year as a pro in 2023 and then Europe won.

In early June, world number one Scottie Scheffler secured his direct spot in the US team.
