Dortmund let their Swedish new acquisition play, who was brought in as recently as last week from Nordsjälland in the Danish league. Svensson made his league debut over the weekend with a late substitution in the 1-2 loss to Stuttgart.
He made his CL debut for the German giant as a left-back from the start – and did well.
On the other hand, Gyökeres had to start on the bench.
In after an hour
Gyökeres has scored 32 goals in 31 competitive matches for Sporting this season. The national team striker recently made a comeback after an injury and made a substitution in the Portuguese league against Porto last time.
Instead, Conrad Harder played on top from the start in Sporting, who got the match's first hot chance when Maximiliano Araujo hit the crossbar with a powerful shot. Dortmund did not have a shot on goal in the first half. The start of the second half was more promising.
Like when Karim Adeyemi's rapid shot was parried by Rui Silva.
Harder did not get much done and Gyökeres came in with just over an hour played. A minute later, Serhou Guirassy nodded in Dortmund's lead goal, on Julian Brandt's right-wing cross.
Pulled down the curtain
Pascal Gross pulled down the curtain when he scored 2-0 eight minutes later. Adeyemi locked it in with his 3-0 goal in the end.
Swedish defender Jonas Rouhi sat on Juventus' bench in the match against PSV Eindhoven.
Weston McKennie made sure Juventus had 1-0 at halftime, but veteran Ivan Perisic equalized in the second half.
The final word was had by Samuel Mbangula when he shot 2-1 and "Juves"' winning goal.
The returns are played next week.
