Lamine Yamal sat on the bench, and Roony Bardghji started on the right in Barcelona's attack.
It was on the wing that Bardghji twisted and turned before firing a shot that Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simón let in a bit too easily. After the goal, which made it 3–0 in the 34th minute, Bardghji ran out to the sidelines to celebrate with coach Hansi Flick.

Bardghji had previously scored one competitive goal since joining Barcelona in the summer, against Real Betis in early December.
On Thursday, Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid will meet in the second Super Cup semi-final, which will also be played in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The final will be decided on Sunday.
