Salah's statements have received a lot of attention and football profiles have reacted.
One is Wayne Rooney. The former Manchester United and Everton player believes that Salah is “completely ruining his legacy” at Liverpool.
"It would be sad for him if he ruined everything. He's taken it all the wrong way," Rooney said.
Salah, 33, is Liverpool's third-highest scorer of all time with 250 goals in 420 appearances for the club. He extended his contract until 2027 last spring but has been a shadow of his former self so far this season.
No relationship
At the same time, Liverpool has lost most of the form and ability that made the club Premier League champions last season.
In the table, Liverpool is currently in ninth place and Salah has only scored four goals.
Against Leeds on Saturday (3–3), he was again on the bench (along with Alexander Isak), something Salah found difficult to accept.
"I've said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and suddenly we don't have a relationship. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That's how I feel. I think it's very clear that someone wanted me to get all the blame," he told reporters after the match.
Must mark
Harsh words. And they took the bait.
Wayne Rooney believes in his BBC podcast, according to AP, that Arne Slot, who is under heavy pressure, must mark Salah and not let him travel with the team to Tuesday's Champions League meeting with Inter in Milan.
Rooney got what he wanted. Salah did train with the team in Kirby on Monday, but according to Liverpool's official website, he was left out of the squad.
Salah will travel to the African Championships after the weekend's league match against Brighton. The Egyptian has hinted that it could be his last game for Liverpool.
Speculation has been growing recently about a possible move to the Saudi league, and Monday's events have not diminished it.
