It was the Spanish newspaper Marca that first reported that Ronaldo had left the gathering and flown to Madrid in his private plane.
Now Ronaldo himself has confirmed that he has left the national team squad.
"In time, I will tell the Portuguese people the truth about the reasons for my departure from the national team, which I have always devoted myself to with all my heart," he wrote in the post.
The star's departure comes after national team coach Jorge Jesus said at a news conference that Ronaldo would not start against Denmark. Jesus also insisted that there is no conflict between him and Ronaldo. This despite media reports that Ronaldo refused to train after being benched in the victory against Norway on Sunday.
