The kick-off in the semi-final at Allianz Arena in Munich was delayed by ten minutes. During the warm-up, a hailstorm arrived and the players had to flee back to the dressing rooms.

When it finally became play, the drama was delayed until after the break. Three minutes into the second half, Florian Wirtz headed in the leading goal for the Germans who were chasing their first final spot in the Nations League on the men's side.

The joy lasted until the 63rd minute. Then Francisco Conceicao sent in the equalizer with a lovely long-range shot.

Five minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo stepped forward. The 40-year-old attacking star's 137th national team goal was not one of the harder ones in his career. Ronaldo only had to put his foot to it and send the ball into an empty goal after a fine preparation by Nuno Mendes.

A 2–1 result that stood the test of time and Portugal is thus clear for Sunday's final. There, the winner of Thursday's semi-final between Spain and France awaits, which is played in the German Stuttgart.

Portugal won the first edition of the Nations League in 2019.
