Two Romanian villages have been evacuated after a Russian attack on a Ukrainian city, where a gas tanker has started to burn.

A Turkish tanker, MT Orinda, which Ukraine says is carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is anchored in a Ukrainian port, is on fire after a Russian attack, the BBC reports after verifying images from the scene.

The port city of Izmail in the Ukrainian region of Odessa was attacked by drones on Monday, according to Ukrainian reports.

The city is located on the Danube, on the border with Romania, and two villages on the other side of the river have been evacuated as a result of the fire, according to the AFP news agency.
