At Least Seven Missing After Attacks on Ships in the Black Sea, Romanian Authorities Say

At least seven people are missing after attacks on ships in the Black Sea, according to Romanian authorities. The country's president has called the attacks “unacceptable.”

On Wednesday evening, a Comoros-flagged ship was attacked. It caught fire, and Romanian rescue workers went to the scene near the border with Ukraine.

Defense Minister Radu Miruta said they were investigating whether it was a drone attack.

On Thursday morning, a San Marino-flagged ship carrying chemicals was attacked. At least seven people are missing after the attacks.

"This is unacceptable and must stop. Lives, trade and crucial infrastructure are threatened," President Nicusor Dan wrote on X after a meeting with NATO chief Mark Rutte.

The attacks are feared to be part of Russia’s intensified war in Ukraine.
