Injury crisis in the back line. Manchester United star Fridolina Rolfö has been selected as a defender as the women's national team begins qualifying for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. Hammarby's young center back Sofia Reidy is a debutant.

"From my 2025 squad, eight players were unavailable, six of them defenders. That will make it extra challenging," says national coach Tony Gustavsson at a press conference.

The injured list includes Anna Sandberg and Nathalie Björn.

Kosovare Asllani continues as captain.

" If you look at how young this squad is, her personality and captaincy become extra important. She is glowing and passionate and extremely motivated for this qualifier," Gustavsson says of the 36-year-old.

Next up are away matches against Italy on March 3 and Serbia on March 7. Denmark is also in Sweden's group.

Goalkeepers: Tove Enblom (Vålerenga), Jennifer Falk (Liverpool), Moa Öhman (Malmö FF).

Defenders: Bella Andersson (Real Madrid), Smilla Holmberg (Arsenal), Elma Junttila Nelhage (Lyon), Hanna Lundkvist (Manchester United), Amanda Nildén (Tottenham), Sofia Reidy (Hammarby), Fridolina Rolfö (Manchester United), Hanna Wijk (Tottenham).

Midfielders/Forwards: Filippa Angeldahl (Real Madrid), Kosovare Asllani (London City Lionesses), Hanna Bennison (Real Madrid), Stina Blackstenius (Arsenal), Rebecka Blomqvist (Eintracht Frankfurt), Evelyn Ijeh (North Carolina Courage), Monica Jusu Bah (Häcken), Rosa Kafaji (Brighton), Johanna Rytting Kaneryd (Chelsea), Felicia Schröder (Häcken), Matilda Vinberg (Tottenham), Julia Zigiotti Olme (Manchester United).
