De Paul scored the 1-0 goal for Inter Miami in last night's match against Monterrey in the Leagues Cup in the United States. The midfielder celebrated by taking off his shirt, revealing another shirt underneath with Messi on the back.
39-year-old Messi was not present, according to media reports because he is the biggest star in Argentina. Before the match, a minute's silence was also held in memory of Jorge Messi, who turned 68 years old.
"Our hearts are with our team captain Leo and the entire Messi family," Inter Miami wrote in a statement.
Monterrey won the match 2–1.
