In 2025, 31 unionized employees were fired from Rockstar Games. According to the IWGB Game Workers union, the employees were fired precisely because they were unionized. However, according to Rockstar Games, the layoffs were due to the disclosure of confidential information.
The union IWGB has taken the matter to the labour court, and the case will be heard in September.
The goal for the employees now is to secure collective bargaining and stronger labour protections ahead of the launch of “GTA VI” in November. If negotiations fail, the conflict could escalate into a strike.
