The air raid alarm sounded for several hours on Wednesday and the damage from the attack is still being investigated.

According to Kyiv's military chief Serhij Popko, the air defense shot down several ballistic missiles and cruise missiles and about a dozen drones, reports AP.

President Volodymyr Zelensky's chief of staff warned on Wednesday morning of Russian missiles targeting the Ukrainian capital.

"Putin is launching a missile attack on Kyiv right now", wrote Andrij Jermak on Telegram just after 7 am.

The attack on Kyiv is the first in 73 days, writes AP. The debris from the downed missiles and drones caused a fire in a department store in Brovary, in Kyiv's northeastern outskirts. A man was also injured in the attacks.

As a result of the attacks, power restrictions have been introduced for businesses and industries in Kyiv during the day, announces Popko.

Ukraine's air force reports that four missiles and 37 drones have been shot down over eight regions in Ukraine during the night and into Wednesday morning, reports AFP.

A woman has been killed in an attack in the Cherson region in southern Ukraine, according to local authorities.
