A disease that used to claim the lives of pirates – has now also affected a rock star. Robbie Williams tells that he dieted so drastically that he was struck by scurvy.

In his desperation to lose weight, Robbie Williams started using a medication that suppresses appetite. He did lose almost twelve kilos, but it led to him not getting enough nutrients or vitamin C.

A doctor confirmed that he had contracted scurvy, writes The Mirror.

A disease for pirates in the 17th century, says Williams to the magazine.

When Robbie Williams' wife Ayda noticed that he was starting to look thin, he became more pleased than worried.

When you have body dysmorphic disorder and people say they're starting to get worried about how you look, the reaction is rather: "I've succeeded". When people say you're too thin, the brain reacts as if you've hit the jackpot. "I've reached the promised land", explains the pop star.

In the interview with The Mirror, Robbie Williams talks about the fact that he has had problems with various forms of addiction and mental health issues, such as depression, throughout his entire career.

Depression recently came back. But after changing his diet, Williams felt it lift.

Robbie Williams is going on a large European tour this summer with stops in Stockholm on August 7. He will already be performing in Copenhagen on June 19.

A deficiency disease that occurs due to a lack of vitamin C. It was particularly common in the past among explorers, but also among pirates, who were on long voyages and rarely had access to food with vitamin C. Source: NE.se.
