According to police, a bomb was first detonated targeting a private pickup truck carrying passengers. As the injured were being transported to a hospital, a second bomb exploded.

The attack took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Pakistani Taliban, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, and other armed groups are active in the area.

The attack comes against a backdrop of increased tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the incident and promised that the government will continue to fight terrorism and bring those responsible to justice.
