A suspicious object was found in Bunkeflostrand in southwestern Malmö on Sunday evening, police said. According to Sydsvenskan, two teenage boys have been arrested.

The object was found outdoors at an apartment building.

Lasse Brundin, on-call investigation leader at Malmö Police, tells Sydsvenskan that it is something "that is suspected to be a bomb or some other explosive."

Several neighborhoods were cordoned off and residents were urged to stay indoors. During the night, the police were able to lift the cordons.

"Now it has entered the investigation phase instead, and we are ready on site. The National Bomb Protection Unit and forensic experts have taken care of the object," says Mikael Lindh, police officer on duty.

A technical examination of the object will be carried out.

According to Sydsvenskan, two teenage boys are suspected of attempted public destruction. The police confirmed to TT that two people have been arrested, but would not give any further details.

The alarm about the object came at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.
