Algeria was eliminated from the World Cup after losing 2-0 to Switzerland in the round of 32.
Team captain and star Riyad Mahrez was in the starting lineup, but could not help his team advance. After the final whistle, Mahrez announced, according to beIN Sports, that he was ending his international career.
The 35-year-old winger has scored 40 goals in 119 international appearances and was a key player in Algeria's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations triumph.
Mahrez currently plays for Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, but is best known for his successful years at Leicester, where he won the Premier League unexpectedly in 2016, and Manchester City in England.
