Just as Christmas traffic is expected to start, cracks were discovered in the asphalt on the E4 south of Södertälje. The Swedish Transport Administration is warning of queues.

It was on Tuesday evening that cracks were discovered in the road surface in the two southbound lanes of the E4 between Hölö and Vagnhärad. The cause is ongoing pipeline work on the road.

Repair work is underway and in the meantime, southbound lanes are being diverted to northbound lanes where traffic will be split into two lanes. The speed limit has been reduced to 50 kilometers per hour on the 2.5 kilometer stretch and on Saturday traffic resumed, but slowly and with little congestion.

There may be some queues in the coming days, says Daniel Mossberg, press communicator at the Swedish Transport Administration.

The Swedish Transport Administration expects the repair work to be completed by 4 p.m. on December 22nd.
