Distance heating costs have on average become over nine percent more expensive this year, the second highest increase so far, according to a previous report from the Nils Holgersson group, an association of property owners that measures various prices that in the next step affect households' housing costs.
Now the next partial report is coming: Water and sewage fees have this year risen by an average of almost eleven percent compared to 2024.
Just like for district heating, with the exception of last year, the highest increase so far, says Rikard Silverfur.
Plus 14 percent
Last year, the water and sewage fees rose by an average of almost 14 percent.
Water and sewage fees are, together with district heating and interest costs, a property owner/tenant-owners association's heaviest items – costs that end up with the residents.
The review of the municipalities' water and sewage fees shows large differences. In Säffle and Åmål, the increase is over 50 percent, but there are also a few municipalities that reduce or keep it unchanged. The most expensive overall is water and sewage in Trosa municipality, 14,000 kronor per year and apartment (according to Nils Holgersson's typical apartment). The cheapest is Fagersta, 3,100 kronor per year.
These are enormous differences that we do not think are acceptable, says Rikard Silverfur.
"It's wrong"
The background to the soaring fees is the large maintenance debt that many municipalities have for their water and sewage system, costs and thus fee increases that Rikard Silverfur has some understanding for.
We understand that they do so, but we mean that it is wrong that households alone have to bear this, he says and demands efforts from the state and municipalities.
