Right-wing candidate Laura Fernández wins Costa Rica's presidential election, according to AFP.

With just over 80 percent of the votes counted, Fernández's support stands at 48.94 percent. The closest candidate, Álvaro Ramos, had 33 percent of the vote at the time and has conceded defeat.

At least 40 percent of the vote is required to win the presidential election in the first round.

The election, held on Sunday, largely focused on how to handle drug-related crime.
