Olympic qualifier Rickard Rakell will not play in Friday night's NHL game for Pittsburgh due to a lower-body injury, nhl.com reports.

He participated in practice this morning but left early, and his condition is being evaluated continuously, according to coach Dan Muse. He has 24 points this NHL season, including 10 goals and 14 assists.

It is not clear how this will affect his ability to play in the Olympics, which open on Friday. The first match of the three-day Games is less than a week away.

Tre Kronor has been hit by several injuries recently, and Anaheim's star center Leo Carlsson and Minnesota defenseman Jonas Brodin have been forced to withdraw.
