Sha'Carri Richardson struck gold with a new super performance on Saturday.
The American secured her Olympic spot when she set a new world season's best with a time of 10.71 during the USA's Olympic trials.
I can barely contain myself until I get to go to Paris and represent the USA, she says according to AFP.
During yesterday's qualifying round for the final of the American Olympic trials in the 100 metres, superstar Sha'Carri Richardson stumbled and was in a bad way. But after a strong finish, she made it to the final despite everything – with an untied shoe.
And it went significantly better there.
The 24-year-old struck gold with a super performance and crossed the finish line in a time of 10.71, which is a new world season's best. Richardson thereby secured her spot at the Olympics in Paris this summer, hardly surprisingly.
In the stands, her family was in tears, after Richardson had qualified for her first Olympics in her career.
I feel honoured. I feel that every chapter I've been through in my life has laid the foundation and prepared me for this, she says to AFP.
Sha'Carri Richardson missed the Olympics in Tokyo after being banned for testing positive for cannabis.
Melissa Jefferson came second in the trials, ahead of third-placed Twanisha Terry. The duo is also clear for the Olympics this summer.
