Retail trade sales volume decreased by 4.8 percent in May compared to the previous month, according to new figures from the Statistical Central Bureau (SCB).
Specialized store trade decreased by 6.0 percent and daily goods trade excluding Systembolaget decreased by 2.8 percent.
"May 2025 was a weak month for retail trade. Sales volume decreased both compared to the previous month and the same period last year", says Jeongwon Kim, statistician at SCB, according to a press release.
Clothing trade was one of the industries that fell the most. It declined with a decrease of 17.6 percent compared to May 2024. So far this year, the sales volume in the industry has decreased by 8.5 percent compared to the corresponding period 2024.
