After previously having decreased – during the second quarter, the crime statistics in the retail trade turned upwards again, shows the trade organization Swedish Trade's quarterly safety barometer.

42 percent of the stores stated that they had been exposed to theft, threats and violence, burglary or threatening behavior during the second quarter. That is seven percentage points more than the first quarter.

The retailers reported an average of 36 percent of all thefts to the police. That is slightly more than before, but still too low a proportion, Swedish Trade believes, which urges more to report.

"We know that it can sometimes feel hopeless to make a police report. But it is of the utmost importance to be persistent, to demonstrate to the responsible authorities how exposed our industry actually is", says security manager Nina Jelver at Swedish Trade in a written comment.
