Residents and tourists who were forced to evacuate because of the giant fire outside Bordeaux are allowed to return to their homes and holiday homes, authorities announced on X. The forest fire, which is the largest in France since 1949 and forced nearly a quarter of a million people to leave their homes, has been under control since the weekend.
At the same time, firefighters who Le Monde spoke to point out that extinguishing work could continue until winter, as it could "smolder for months" in the dry undergrowth.
