The Reserve Bank of Australia is raising its policy rate to 3.85 percent, up from 3.60 percent, making it the first major central bank to raise rates so far this year.

After the interest-rate announcement, central bank governor Michele Bullock was cautious about indicating the direction of the policy rate going forward.
