In the spring, the first research school for police officers in the country will start. Malmö University will receive around a handful of police officers, who will conduct research in parallel with their profession.

It is a fairly large group and therefore the investment is historic, says Caroline Mellgren, head of the department for police work at Malmö university.

The research school will be financed by the university. The police officers will study as doctoral students in criminology, with a special focus on police work.

If we have police officers who are both practitioners and academics, we get a more analytical police force, means Caroline Mellgren.

Which police officers get the research positions is not clear, but a notice of interest will be posted shortly with the police.
