Following Northvolt's failure, a new research center at Luelå University will strengthen European battery manufacturing. The intention is to pool research and expertise to provide competitive advantages for the European battery industry.
"At Northvolt, I clearly saw that there was a lack of academic research around battery production. We need to not only support the industry in innovation projects but also train the engineers required to build up the expertise over time," says Martin Karlsson, head of the new Research Center for Advanced Battery Technology, RECAT, at Luleå University of Technology in a press release.
