Several media outlets are reporting that Ukraine's situation in Kursk has deteriorated in recent days. Thousands of soldiers are said to be on the verge of being surrounded by Russian forces, according to Reuters. According to the news agency, which refers to maps showing how the battles are unfolding, the Ukrainian force has almost been divided into two parts.
Ukraine's responsible for stopping disinformation, Andrij Kovalenko, admits that "tough battles" are ongoing, according to Politico. Russia is trying to take control of a key highway between Junakivka, located in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, and Sudzha in Kursk, which is controlled by Ukraine, he says.
The Ukrainian forces have held control over parts of the Russian Kursk region since the offensive in August, with the hope of being able to exchange the territory in future peace talks, reports AFP.
