The announcement comes after United's manager Rúben Amorim said he would rather bet on a 63-year-old goalkeeper coach than give Marcus Rashford a chance.

"Luckily, some clubs have contacted me, but choosing Aston Villa was an easy decision for me to make", says Rashford in a statement from Villa.

Longing

"I really like how Aston Villa has played this season and what the manager wants to achieve. I just want to play and am longing to get started.

Unwanted at Old Trafford, the former English national team striker can get a fresh start at Villa Park and with manager Unai Emery.

Initially, the supposed transfer is about a loan for the rest of the season, with an option for Villa to buy Rashford for around half a billion kronor in the summer.

At odds with

Rashford has fallen out with Amorim and has not played in the Premier League since December.

Former United profiles like Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, and Wayne Rooney have been harsh in their criticism of Rashford, who is seen as unengaged and uninterested.

Last season, he was already left out of the team due to disciplinary reasons. He did not even get a spot in England's European Championship squad last summer.

Aston Villa wants to strengthen offensively since Jhon Duran was sold to Saudi Al-Nassr last week.

Rashford has played more than 420 matches for Manchester United and scored 138 goals.
