Another 35 people have been seriously injured, Amnesty wrote on X.

Local leader Lawan Zanna Nur says the total number of victims - killed and injured - is around 200.

According to reports, fighter jets from the Nigerian military carried out airstrikes against Boko Haram jihadists. A marketplace in the village of Jilli was reportedly hit during the attacks.

Government representatives have confirmed that something went wrong in connection with the operation.

An intelligence source also states that the marketplace is controlled by Boko Haram, which "provides security and collects taxes from traders."

The northern parts of Nigeria are hard hit by violent jihadist groups and other criminal gangs.

It is not unusual for military airstrikes to hit civilians, and according to AP's calculations, at least 500 civilians have been killed since 2017. Security analysts have pointed out that there are shortcomings in intelligence work and coordination between the air force and forces on the ground.
