A third Swedish man is said to have been sentenced to death in Iraq, reports Alkompis. The information has reached the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, but has not yet been confirmed.
"If the information is correct, it is of course very serious. We will then act urgently to prevent the sentence from being carried out", writes the Ministry for Foreign Affairs to TT.
The man who is said to have been sentenced to death by hanging is suspected of drug offenses, according to Alkompis.
The Swedish embassy in Baghdad has been in contact with local authorities, and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs has been in contact with relatives, writes the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Iraq's chargé d’affaires in Stockholm has also been summoned to clarify the information.
Earlier, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs has confirmed that two Swedish men in another case have been sentenced to death. This concerns the murder in Baghdad of a former high-ranking member of the criminal Foxtrot network. A third Swedish man was also arrested for the murder. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has not yet confirmed the sentence for him, but according to Alkompis' information, he has also been sentenced to death.
