Report: Sweden’s population could shrink by four million by 2100

By 2100, there could be four million fewer Swedes, according to one of several scenarios in the report, SR Ekot reports.

If you isolate the effect of a shrinking population, it would have quite serious consequences for the Swedish economy, says Åsa Hansson, associate professor of economics and responsible for the report, to Ekot.

We must try to shift and put more resources into making life easier for young adults in Sweden, says Hansson.

Sven-Olov Daunfeldt, chief economist at the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, believes that Sweden needs to increase labour immigration.

We have many shortages in occupations today where we will need labour immigration to cope with the supply challenge that exists.
