Only one point now separates Degerfors from Mjällby in the qualification spot, despite Mjällby taking Swedish Championship gold in dominant style as recently as last year.
Ten rounds remain for most of the teams, 11 for Mjällby, but recent form does not speak for the Blekinge side. Since the 4-3 victory over league leaders Sirius on Aug. 15, Mjällby has scored only one goal and lost five straight matches, two in the Europa League qualifiers and three in the Allsvenskan.
“Really, really bad”
Today, I just want to apologise to everyone who likes Mjällby. The second half is the worst performance we've had since I came to the club. Kalmar fell
Nino Zugelj put “Blue and White” 1-0 up in the 59th minute, and Danish new signing Alexander Simmelhack added another in the 63rd minute. A moment later, Sam Larsson capped the match with two goals in four minutes.
IFK Göteborg has not had a brilliant season either, but it won deservedly. With the victory, it moves up to 26 points, six more than Mjällby, and thus has some breathing room above the relegation battle at the bottom.
Halmstad is top of the table with 11 points, with Örgryte closest on 15. Both Degerfors and Kalmar (who lost 1-0 at home to Djurgården on Monday night) are on 19 points, while Mjällby is in 12th place with 20.
