At Skåne University Hospital in Lund, capsules containing gut bacteria have been manufactured for a year and given to patients. This year, the goal is for all infectious disease clinics in Skåne to be able to offer the treatment - but to achieve this, the donor shortage must be addressed.
"Every patient waiting for treatment depends on bacteria that only a healthy donor can provide. We are already seeing that the need will increase in 2026," says Sara Hansson, a nurse in infectious disease care, in a press release .
