Weak economic conditions and growing health interest are pointed out as factors that may be behind Systembolaget's declining sales volumes. The non-alcoholic beverages segment went against the trend, where sales instead increased by 6.1 percent compared to the same quarter last year.
"The increase reflects a growing interest in low-alcohol drinks," says Ann Carlsson Meyer, CEO of Systembolaget, in a press release.
Despite reduced sales volumes, Systembolaget's net sales increased marginally due to price increases, among other things.
"We see that customers are buying slightly smaller volumes and making different choices than before. Among other things, we are seeing a mix shift with a slight decline in wine, which has a direct impact on the result," says Merlin Poljak, Head of Business Support at Systembolaget, in a press release.
