The bird flu season has been difficult and nine outbreaks have been confirmed, according to the Swedish Board of Agriculture.

In October last year, the Swedish Board of Agriculture classified large parts of southern Sweden as a high-risk area to protect Swedish bird populations.

As of Wednesday, that decision will be lifted, and it is once again permitted to release your birds.

"Although the risk of infection has not completely passed, we believe that restrictions that keep birds confined are no longer justified. However, it is very important that you as a pet owner continue to do what you can to protect your birds," says Caroline Bössfall, infectious disease control officer at the Swedish Board of Agriculture, in a press release.
