SEK 400 million comes from the government, while the Akelius Foundation, founded by real estate billionaire Roger Akelius, is providing SEK 800 million.
"A school for 250 students, including teachers and food for five years, costs around a couple of million kronor, depending on whether tents or permanent buildings are used. Akelius is contributing funding for 400 schools," writes Kerstin Engström, chairwoman of the Akelius Foundation, in a press release.
According to the press release, the donation is the largest ever in Sweden in terms of humanitarian aid.
In addition to the SEK 400 million to UNICEF, the government is giving an additional SEK 155 million to other UN agencies operating in the Gaza Strip.
